NEW SAVE-THE-DATE – Thursday, June 21st will be our annual UAIC/Do The Right Thing Summer Salute Awards Night. This year’s event will take place at the new Marlins Park from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Invited guests will be able to enjoy typical ballpark food and entertainment and our awards presentations. Our theme this year…Do The Right Thing…”Game On!” All DTRT Top 10 winners this school year are invited plus their principal and DTRT coordinator! Evites will be sent in early May. DTRT will be announcing our elementary, middle and high Schools of the Year based on schools which had the most Top 10 winners this school year. Each will receive a plaque for their principal, a trophy and banner for their school and the DTRT coordinator will win a $25 Target gift card. The Nominator of the Year, the person who nominated the most Top 10 winners this school year, will win a night at the Mandarin Oriental in downtown Miami and the Coordinator of the Year whose school overall had the most Top 10 winners will win a massage. Good luck to all!

Congratulations to Ms. Ileana Jimenez from North Hialeah Elementary for being the winner in our final drawing for a $25 gift card to Applebee’s for the month of May. Thank you all who submitted great nominations this school year!

Congratulations to Ms. Susan Gotlieb from Gratigny Elementary for being the winner of our flat screen TV giveaway! Ms. Gotlieb wins a 32″ flat screen TV that will be awarded at our Summer Salute Awards Night on 6/21, for having her school submit the maximum 15 nominations per month for every month this school year! Thank you for such great support of our program!

May is the last nomination month, therefore the nomination process for the 2011-2012 school year is now CLOSED. We will begin accepting online nominations again at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year!

The next DTRT ceremony is Friday, May 18th at 10 a.m.

Remember…ALL NOMINATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE ONLY-NO EXCEPTIONS! ALSO, WE MUST LIMIT EACH NOMINATION TO 500 WORDS. ANY INFORMATION ABOVE 500 WORD COUNT WILL BE DELETED FROM THE NOMINATION SO PLEASE PUT THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION FIRST.

In order to encourage your participation, any DTRT Coordinator whose school nominates the maximum of 15 STUDENTS EVERY MONTH OF THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR AND MEETS THE NOMINATION CRITERIA OF AT LEAST 4 SENTENCES, will be entered into a drawing to win a 32-inch LCD flat screen TV. The TV will be awarded at the Summer Salute Awards Dinner on June 21, 2012!

The purpose of Do The Right Thing of Miami, Inc. (DTRT) is to recognize and reward Miami youth for their exemplary behavior, accomplishments and good deeds. The DTRT Awards Program distinguishes exceptional school-age children who choose to be drug and crime free, exhibit non-violent behavior, do well in school, make a difference in their communities and demonstrate turnaround behavior. Each month of the school year, parents, police officers, teachers and other adults nominate up to 1,000 children for “doing the right thing.” A selection committee reviews the nominations and selects ten finalists for the month.
