VERIZON WIRELESS AND DO THE RIGHT THING OF MIAMI TEAM UP FOR CELLPHONE RECYCLING DRIVE

Community Members Encouraged to Donate Used Wireless Phones and Accessories to HopeLine® from Verizon at Various Collection Points Throughout the City

All throughout the month of October Verizon has teamed up with Do the Right Thing Miami (DTRT) and the City of Miami Police Department during October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, to invite Miami residents to clean out their drawers and recycle used wireless phones and accessories, regardless of service provider, make, model or technology. HopeLine collection boxes will be placed in six locations across the city to make it easy for residents to participate.  HopeLine collects used wireless phones and accessories, regardless of service provider, make, model or technology, which are then refurbished or recycled. The refurbished phones are sold, and Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to fund non-profit agencies and to purchase other wireless phones for victims of domestic violence in the Miami and South Florida areas.

HopeLine collections boxes will be placed in the following locations:

-Miami Police Department (central, south and north station lobbies)
400 NW 2nd Avenue
-Miami City Hall
3500 Pan American Drive
-Miami Riverside Center
444 SW 2nd Avenue
-Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office
1320 NW 14th Street
-Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office
1350 NW 12th Ave
-Subway
6265 NW 7 Avenue

Donations can also be made at all company-owned Verizon Wireless retail locations.

For more than a decade, Verizon Wireless has been committed to raising awareness of domestic violence and working to prevent it. Since its national launch in 2001 the HopeLine® phone recycling and re-use program has collected more than 12 million phones. The phones collected were recycled in
an environmentally friendly way, with the proceeds benefiting domestic violence victims. In 2015 HopeLine® awarded $7 million in cash grants to non-profit organizations and agencies.
