Alianette Gutierrez
Eighth Grade, Hialeah Gardens Middle
Last school year Alianette was an online student the entire school year. One late afternoon after school hours while on a video chat with friends, one of the young ladies began to vent and talked about the bullying she experienced during her elementary school years. She spoke about feeling depressed and wanting to end her life, with cuts seen on her arm. Alianette tried her best to comfort and console her friend but didn’t feel that what she did was enough. She then told her mother and they proceeded to report her friend’s condition and make sure that she received the help she needed. Because of Alianette’s actions a life was saved and the appropriate interventions were put in place for a student in crisis. At school, Alianette has served as a teacher’s assistant since 6th grade and volunteers in the morning before school to give tours to new students. Academically, she excels, earning Principal’s Honor roll every quarter and will begin high school with 6 completed high school courses. Alianette is a great student and friend whose choice not to be a bystander saved her friend’s life.
