Matteo Vicencio
Fifth Grade, Coconut Grove Elementary
Matteo selflessly offers help to others in his classroom and community. Recently, he used his free time to help a student struggling with math. This is his norm as he makes it his mission to always lend a hand. Matteo has been a Principal’s Honor Roll recipient every grading period. His list of awards is extensive, having been nominated twice as a “Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Healthcare Hero – Youth Volunteer” by the University of Miami, he is a book reviewer for the “PJ Our Way National Kids Committee” and has been nominated as “Student of the Month” for Pursuit of Excellence three times. Matteo also performs regular community service and has obtained 200 new car seats for babies of Holtz Children’s Hospital, has collected 200 books for children at the Malman Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and another 400 books and 300 masks for children of “Achieve Miami” and makes homemade birthday cards for the children in his youth group program. Matteo also enjoys several hobbies and is part of his school’s news report team, is a Rubik’s Cube “Speed Cuber”, participates in robotics, plays guitar, sports, loves Lego building, and is currently taking part in Engineering & Architectural projects. He is also a part of the Chess Club and is a US Chess Foundation Youth Member. Matteo is a very caring, curious, hardworking, and focused student both in and out of the classroom.
