Alexandra Butcher

Twelfth Grade, Ronald Regan Doral Senior High

Alexandra Butcher, a senior at Ronald Regan Doral Senior High. Due to difficult circumstances, Alexandra had no family support growing up and became a part of the foster care system. Luckily, the Assistant Principal at her middle school welcomed Alexandra into her home and made sure to push her to be her best and focus on her studies despite having endured significant setbacks at such a young age. Alexandra is a true role model of what a foster child can become. She understands the importance of education to attain her goals, having straight A’s and being part of the Cambridge Program. Every summer, Alexandra participates in the Upward Bound Math & Science Program at FIU. She is a member of HIP (Health Information Project) and does classroom presentations on mental health and sex education and is also the secretary of the National Honor Society. She has helped collect socks for the homeless, candy for needy children, helped collect canned food during Thanksgiving, and helped bring toys to a homeless shelter for Christmas. Alexandra is the French Honor Society Vice President, and is a member of the Science and English Honor Society. In addition, she was accepted in Columbia University in New York. Alexandra believes that it is her mission to help others in need, as she has been helped by her foster family. Her objective is to support those who do not have the power and resources to help themselves. Despite the challenges she faced, Alexandra has persevered and overcome and surely has a bright future ahead.
