Damion Frometa

Damion is a student that focuses on giving back to others. He spent the first 2 weeks of his life in intensive care as he wasn’t breathing and has had to
undergo several surgeries due to vocal cord paralysis. He’s had to work hard for things that many people take for granted. So, as early as he could, he started volunteering at the same hospital that gave him life. Damion has been a part of the Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation since 2019. Even on the day of one of his surgeries, he spent time talking to other kids who were in similar situations. He volunteers whenever the opportunity presents and has participated in Preeclampsia Awareness for the Memorial Hospital System, has helped feed the homeless at the Miami Rescue Mission and helped distribute Easter baskets for needy children. He has already completed over 150 hours of community service and has taken his summer to participate in the Blue Mission trip to bring water to a village in the Dominican Republic. Damion is also one of three scholars at his school who were nominated for Nova Southeastern University’s “Achieve in Medicine” (AIM) Program to help bring awareness about advances in medicine. Whether it is donating character band aids to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital or bringing clean water to a remote village, Damion understands the importance of giving back and leaving a
positive impact wherever he goes.
