Jeremy Matthews
Seventh Grade, Bob Graham Education Center
Jeremy is a diligent student who strives to get good grades and is also a strong advocate for pediatric cancer, recently raising $50,000 for the Mystic Force Foundation, a non-profit that advocates and raises funds for pediatric cancer research. Jeremy is a pediatric cancer survivor himself. At a young age, he was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma causing him to lose his vision permanently. Jeremy works hard to raise awareness and much needed funds. Most recently, he lost a dear friend to pediatric cancer and realized he wanted to help make a difference. He grew his hair out and a few months later, shaved his head to raise awareness. Jeremy was also a guest speaker at Curefest in Washington, D.C., an event that brings experts in pediatric cancer together with cancer survivors & their families and supporters. He is also very involved at his school becoming a member of the Civic Engagement Academy and participating in Mock Trials and competitions with students from across the district. Jeremy is truly an extraordinary individual both in and outside the classroom.
