Zahra Ronizi
Twelfth Grade, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High
Zahra is a true leader amongst her peers who is dedicated to serving our community and is on her way to fulfilling her dream of becoming an astronaut. As such, she became actively involved in the space industry as much as possible at her young age and was working with scientists in a cave in Spain as part of a simulated mission to Mars. During a hike to sample bacteria, their safety equipment malfunctioned and Zahra employed her leadership skills to help guide her crew back to safety by descending a cliff. She drew inspiration from her father’s strength dealing with the passing of her mother due to cancer and taking care of her, to help guide her through. Despite dealing with the loss of her mother, Zahra has persevered and has numerous accomplishments to her name interning at NASA, mentoring STEM students, and currently serving as Student Advisor to the School Board of Miami-Dade County. Zahra’s resilient spirit, academic excellence, and commitment to helping others overcome obstacles makes her a great role model for her peers to follow.
