Abigail Batic

Twelfth Grade, Hialeah Gardens High

Abigail is a prime example of what it means to do the right thing. With a 4.0 GPA, she dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian and advocating for those who have no voice. She is currently taking Dual Enrollment classes at FIU and Miami Dade College, in addition to being on track to obtain her AICE diploma at the end of this school year and becoming a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship recipient. She is currently an officer for her school’s Oceanic Preservation Club, which helps foster her passion for animals and the environment, and saw a need for more clubs at her school that promote the love of animals and their benefits in aiding mental health. As such, she pioneered her school’s SAFE Club, where animals are incorporated into student safe spaces to minimize anxiety and depression. She coordinated with animal rescue facilities to have a “cat patio” where students would care for the kittens and cats while also promoting mental well-being. Abigail exudes her passion for animals beyond school and serves her community by fostering animals at Miami-Dade animal services and assisting the foster department in their efforts to promote fostering animals. Abigail decided to spread the word and provide awareness to the public by creating an Instagram account where she speaks about the importance of fostering animals and what steps to take. She was even interviewed by CBS Miami for her efforts and implemented Foster Fairs where the community could educate themselves on how to help. Abigail is an incredible student who not only excels academically, but truly has the drive and passion to make the world a better place.
