Amanda Villacanas
Eighth Grade, Citrus Grove K-8 Center
Amanda knew she had to do the right thing when she read a concerning farewell letter from her good friend. She was concerned because her friend was struggling with his mental health and seemed sad and depressed. He shared with Amanda that he had endured difficult circumstances and was thinking about suicide. Amanda recognized the severity of the issue and immediately notified the counselor. The counselor then reached out to the student who received the medical attention he so desperately needed. Through her concern, compassion, and empathy, Amanda proved to be a true friend and ultimately saved a life.
