Anne-Sophie Frederick
Twelfth Grade, School for Advanced Studies North Campus
Anne-Sophie was recently elected as President of the Miami Dade
County Public Schools District Student Government Association
covering all public schools in Miami-Dade County. As the President of
the District SGA, she can influence decisions made by the School
Board on behalf of all students in public schools throughout the whole
county. Anne-Sophie was part of the eight member SAS North
Campus Aspen Challenge Team which came up with a plan to
transform education in our community. Her team was awarded
Second Place by the Aspen Institute out of Colorado and each
member of her team was awarded $1200 last April. Anne-Sophie is of
Haitian descent and is a member of a church whose membership is
mostly comprised of Haitian-Americans. She has become an expert in
coding over the last year or so and because she is very proud of her
Haitian heritage, she searched for a way to give back to the Haitian
youth who attend her church. As a result, she started a coding club at
her church so that she could share her knowledge about coding with
other Haitian children, especially Haitian girls as there is a shortage
of women involved in computer programming. Anne-Sophie is not only a role model for young women but is also a perfect example of a
Do The Right Thing Winner.
