Celine Medrano

Eleventh Grade, Barbara Goleman Senior High
Washington, D.C. Trip Winner

Celine demonstrated resourcefulness, compassion, and diligence in assisting a fellow student who experienced a medical emergency and fell unconscious in class. While the teacher sent another student for help and contacted the main office, Celine who is CPR certified, began to prepare for CPR. Although she briefly considered deferring to someone with more experience, she quickly assessed the urgency of the situation and chose to act. Drawing on her CPR training and certification, she stepped forward and took responsibility. She was able to perform CPR successfully until medical help arrived. This was her first real-life emergency intervention, and her composure under pressure speaks volumes about her character. Her actions not only saved a life but have also strengthened her commitment to pursuing a medical degree. In the midst of a stressful situation, Celine rose to the occasion with courage, integrity, and compassion when it mattered most.
