Derek Rojas

On April 14th the Miami Police Department was contacted regarding
an incident that occurred at Derek’s school. Derek had overheard a
group of 4th grade students plotting to set the school on fire during
their physical education class. After hearing of the plan, Derek went
to get his teacher who then proceeded to contact the principal who
was able to intervene and stop the students before they carried out
their plan to set the school on fire. If not for Derek’s quick action in
reporting what he heard, the safety of his fellow peers and school
could have been in jeopardy. Outside of school, Derek enjoys jiu-jitsu
and playing video games. By coming forward with what he had
witnessed, Derek helped ensure the safety of his school and peers.
