Gabriela Liermo

Seventh Grade, Hialeah Gardens Middle

At the end of the last school year, Daisha and Gabriela demonstrated exceptional awareness, compassion, and responsibility. While in class, both students noticed a classmate engaging in self-harming behavior using scissors discreetly under the table where it was difficult to see. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Daisha and Gabriela immediately approached the teacher after class to report what they had witnessed. Their quick action and concern for their classmate’s well-being enabled staff to intervene promptly and ensure the student’s safety. Daisha and Gabriela demonstrated vigilance, courage, and empathy. Their decision to speak up exemplifies the importance of the “See Something, Say Something” campaign and serves as a powerful reminder of how students can choose to intervene and make a difference in the lives of others.
