Jacoby Darias

Sixth Grade, Hialeah Gardens Middle

Recently Samantha and Jacoby demonstrated exceptional courage, responsibility, and leadership. Jacoby shared with Samantha that a high school student had allegedly threatened to harm middle schoolers who gathered at Checkers after school. Jacoby initially was hesitant to report it, fearing it might be false and worried about betraying a friend’s trust. Samantha immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation and knew that lives could be at risk. With her encouragement, the two reported the threat. Thanks to their bravery, a subsequent investigation by Miami-Dade School Police and Hialeah Gardens Police identified the source and appropriate safety measures were taken. Thankfully, the threat was not credible, but the swift action taken ensured the safety and peace of mind of students and staff. Their actions are a powerful reminder of the importance of the “See Something, Say Something” message. Because of Samantha and Jacoby’s courage, a potential tragedy was averted.
