Jason Carrera
Second Grade, Johnnie M. Parris Colonial Drive Elementary
Jason’s goal is to help as many people as he can, always going out of his way to be kind and give to others. Recently, after school, Jason noticed a classmate had dropped her ice cream on the sidewalk and was upset. The next day Jason bought her a new ice cream to brighten her day. At school, Jason is responsible and takes care of the garden and always picks up litter around the school. He also takes a stand against bullying. Recently, he came to the aid of a fellow student who was being bullied with homophobic language by older students. Jason exhibited courage by standing up to the bullies and letting them know their comments were hurtful. He then alerted the principal who spoke to the students and the situation was dealt with accordingly. Jason is also helpful at home, where he assists his younger sister and his grandmother. In the future, he wants to become a police officer like his dad who is training at the Miami-Dade Police Academy. Jason helps his dad study the police codes and excitedly says, “When I grow up I will already know the codes!” Jason looks forward to following in his dad’s footsteps and certainly has a bright future ahead.
