Lennox Ocampo-Garay

Seventh Grade, Paul W. Bell Middle

Lennox’s journey has been one of immense struggle, yet he continues to rise above the challenges with a smile on his face and an unwavering will to succeed. Before he was even born, Lennox suffered a traumatic head injury that left him unable to walk. Despite this, he has never allowed his physical limitations to define him. When he was just 7 years old, he underwent 3 consecutive surgeries which caused him to fall behind academically. However, Lennox refused to let these hardships hold him back. He continues to persevere academically and tackles the challenges with courage and optimism. His mother works hard to provide for him and his younger brother throughout these trying circumstances. Lennox takes on a leadership role at home, helping his younger brother with homework and encouraging him to do well in school. He remains focused on his education and his future, aspiring to one-day design his own video games and build a successful career that will allow him to support his family. Knowing the importance of education, he takes full advantage of every opportunity to learn at school and refuses to let his physical limitations limit his ambitions. Despite everything he has endured, he maintains a positive attitude and is admired by his peers and teachers for his resilience and kindness. Lennox faces adversity head-on, remains committed to his goals, and spreads kindness wherever he goes.
