Mia Mateu

Mia is an extraordinary student who consistently displays compassion, maturity, and courage. She is incredibly sensitive to the needs of her peers, always offering comfort, encouragement, and support. Recently, Mia made the tough decision to report that two of her close friends were engaging in self-harm. She provided all the necessary information to make sure these students received immediate assistance. Despite the difficulty of reporting her friends, Mia knew she had to do the right thing and her friends understood that she acted out of love and concern. Because of Mia’s courage, the students received the mental health support they required. At home, Mia continues to demonstrate responsibility and kindness by helping her mother with household chores and doing whatever is needed to maintain order in their home. Mia’s selflessness, empathy, bravery, and commitment to protecting others make her an exceptional Do The Right Thing winner.
