Nathaly Reyes
Fifth Grade, Kendale Lakes Elementary
Recently during breakfast, Nathaly, while on safety patrol duties,
noticed a fellow classmate looking very shaken and distraught in the
cafeteria. The student was experiencing a severe panic attack and
could not physically move, speak, or seek help. Noticing her classmate in this state, Nathaly was very concerned and approached the student to try to assist and then sought an adult for help. She then assisted administration with walking the young lady to the clinic where she shared that she was experiencing anxiety, something she suffers from and takes medication for. Due to her symptoms, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was called to further assist and additional resources were provided to the student. Nathaly not only followed the “See something, say something” campaign, but she also did a great job of assessing an emergency situation and immediately looking for adult guidance. Her actions demonstrated tremendous maturity, compassion, and courage.
