Rachel Del Portal

Rachel exemplifies leadership, compassion, and academic
excellence. Rachel is a member of the Jazz and Symphonic band,
SWAT Club and serves as a Peer Counselor, where her natural
leadership and positive demeanor shine. She has a special gift for
connecting with her peers, especially those who may feel
marginalized. Recently, Rachel formed a unique bond with a
younger student on the spectrum, showing deep empathy and
care. On one occasion, Rachel brought this student to the
counselor in tears as she had discovered the student was involved
in an inappropriate video call. Rachel comforted her and asked
important questions such as whether anyone had forced her to
participate. Her quick thinking and empathy led to immediate
interventions that safeguarded the student and also provided key
information that allowed administration to address other related
concerns. Rachel’s ability to protect and advocate for others,
especially vulnerable students, is remarkable and rare for
someone her age. Her caring heart, sharp instincts, and
commitment to doing the right thing make her a true leader and
great friend to all.
