Ruth Jean-Marie
Twelfth Grade, Miami Northwestern Senior High
Recently during lunch at the student union, two young ladies were
about to engage in an altercation. Ruth intervened and deescalated
the situation and reported it to her teacher right away. She was
concerned for her fellow peers but was also respectful of the student
union being a “place of peace.” Security was alerted and the young
ladies were spoken to, which avoided a conflict. Ruth participates in
many clubs and is a great motivator who leads by example. She was
instrumental in preparing her classmates for the Innovate
Competition, and as a result, they brought home 3rd Place. Ruth
demonstrates the qualities of a leader who not only cares about her
peers but encourages them to do the right thing.
