Sophia Coutts
Fourth Grade, Coconut Grove Elementary
Rapids Waterpark Trip Winner
Recently, while about to take a swim at the pool, Andres and Sophia noticed an object in the pool that appeared to resemble a firearm. Instead of approaching or touching the object, they immediately demonstrated sound judgment by stopping what they were doing and contacting their parents. Their parents then notified the appropriate authorities who responded to assess the situation. Thankfully, it was later determined that the object was not a real firearm. Andres and Sophia’s actions reflect a high level of maturity, awareness, and decision-making. Their behavior serves as an excellent example of how students should respond in uncertain or potentially unsafe situations. They remained calm, avoided unnecessary risk, and followed the safest course of action by involving trusted adults. By prioritizing safety and responsibility, Andres and Sophia definitely did the right thing.
