Yasmin Suazo

Sixth Grade, Shenandoah Middle

Yasmin came to the office to report a situation that occurred in the
girls’ locker room. A group of female students were using a vape pen
in the locker room and offered one of Yasmin’s friends to partake.
Yasmin told the students that they should not be engaging in that
activity. One student responded, ” Why? No one cares about me, not
even my own parents.” To this Yasmin replied, ” You have your
whole life to look forward to. Focus on school and your grades”.
Despite her encouragement, Yasmin felt the young ladies were not
receptive to what she was saying and at that point went to find a
trusted adult. Her friend who was offered the vape product, took
Yasmin’s advice and left the situation. Yasmin’s desire to stand up to
and for others demonstrates bravery, responsibility and a passion for
doing the right thing.
